Within each local authority, it is required for there to be a Safeguarding Adult Board (SAB) as detailed in the Care Act 2014. The purpose of the SAB is to help and safeguard adults with care and support needs.

Southampton SAB (SSAB) is a group of services that come together to co-ordinate work to safeguard and promote the welfare of adults in Southampton city. The main objective of the SSAB is to assure itself that local safeguarding arrangements and partners act to help and protect adults at risk of harm in Southampton.

It also aims to ensure that safeguarding activities are of a high quality and in line with the Care Act 2014. The SSAB is a partnership of organisations including, Southampton City Council, Hampshire and IOW Constabulary, Southampton City Integrated Care Board (ICB) as well as different agencies that work with adults with care and support needs.
