Repairing and maintaining your bike

Southampton Bike Kitchen is a DIY workshop where Southampton residents can learn the skills necessary to fix their own bikes. Set up by My Journey, this service was Southampton's first ever 'Bike Kitchen' and has been open since February 2016. You use the space and equipment for FREE to fix your bike yourself - with help from our knowledgeable volunteers.

Please note: you will be required to work on your own bike at all times. Bikes do not get serviced or repaired by the volunteers. If you need replacement parts or more extensive repairs, these can be provided by the Hub Cycleworks at a cost. Wear suitable clothing and be prepared to get your hands dirty!

Drop-in sessions are available to everyone on Wednesday nights (during winter months) from 7.00pm-9.00pm.

Southampton Bike Kitchen is hosted by The Hub Cycleworks at Unit 12 Belgrave Industrial Estate, Portswood SO17 3EA.

Monty's Bike Hub is a social enterprise based in Sholing, which offers bike repair services and free cycle confidence sessions through My Journey, as well as selling second hand bicycles and replacement parts. They also deliver the My Journey Bike Doctor service in the east of Southampton.

Monty's Bike Hub runs its own Bike Kitchen on Wednesday nights, from 6.00-8.00pm. Volunteers will be on hand to help show you how to repair your bike yourself.

If you can't make the Bike Kitchen drop-in sessions then try visiting the Southampton Repair Café, where Bike2Basics will be fixing bikes with the help of volunteers. For dates of new Bike2Basics repair sessions, either visit the website or check their Facebook page for event dates. Bike2Basics is supported by Transition Southampton, which aims to raise awareness of peak oil, climate change and help to rebuild community resilience.

The Southampton Repair Café offers tools and materials to help with repairs of other items such as jewellery, clothing and electrical items. You’ll also find expert volunteers to help with these types of repairs too. For more information, visit the Southampton Repair Cafe website.
