How do I take a break from caring?
To help arrange a break from caring, you can submit an adult social care referral.
See also information on caring for adults which provides you with information on who to talk to and some potential providers of respite care.
There are two different types of service that can offer a break from caring. The service you need depends on whether the person you are caring for is safe to be left alone.
Sitting service
A sitting service is for people who are not safe to be left alone. It provides the person being cared for with company and attention for their care needs.
Respite care
If the person you care for is safe to be left alone, a break from caring can be arranged using local care services to cover their needs.
