Am I a carer?

Woman with disabled woman in gardenA carer is someone who, without payment, provides help and support to a partner, child, relative, friend or neighbour, who could not manage without their support. Anyone can become a carer; carers come from all walks of life, all cultures and can be of any age.

If you need help with:

  • understanding your needs as a carer
  • managing the affairs of the person you care for
  • getting the support you need

You can visit our page about looking after someone, which has information about all of these along with general advice and guidance.

There is also support and advice available for carers from Unpaid Carers Support Southampton.
