Young Carers Award in schools

What is the Young Carers Award?

The award identifies manageable steps to improve educational outcomes for young carers. It enables schools to access additional support. For instance, tools, templates, examples of good practice, webinars and professional development events. It has 3 levels, bronze, silver and gold.

The award allows schools to gain recognition from leading organisations for their good practice and ability to meet the needs of young carers.

Aims of the award

  • For young carers to attend and enjoy school, receiving the same opportunities as other pupils and reaching their full potential
  • To improve young carers wellbeing, ensuring they are better prepared for independent lives
  • To create a school culture which accommodates for and understands the needs of all pupils

How to apply for the award

The schools are required to evidence the support they have implemented. For instance, photographic evidence. The award has a 3 year expiry date, schools will be contacted to reapply when award runs out.
