Southampton City Council Cultural Services Learning Team offers schools a wide range of educational services both in our three venues, at schools and online. We believe every child should have access to the city’s rich and diverse arts and heritage collections. We work with you to achieve this aim, providing inspiring, memorable and high-quality learning experiences.
We are a team of passionate historians and creative artists with decades of experience bringing the cities art and heritage collections to life for children and young people.
We work hard to ensure our services are high quality, focused on your learning outcomes and good value for money.
Nothing beats the enjoyment and enrichment a visit to one of our unique venues can bring to students.
And whether it’s in one of our venues or in school we believe our sessions create inspiring and lasting memories.
This years’ agreement combines both in school services and visits. It continues to be adaptable to your needs whilst maintaining excellent teaching and delivery standards at its core.
Meet the team
Andrew Skinner - Learning & Engagement Officer
Andy has worked at Southampton museums for more than a decade where he helps to deliver the education programme through workshops, tours and events.
He cares passionately about sharing Southampton’s incredible history as widely as possible.
He has a History degree and a PGCE from the University of Southampton and a masters degree in Museum Studies from the University of Leicester.
Liza Morgan – Lifelong Learning Manager
Liza has worked for Southampton City Art Gallery and Museums for two decades.
She grew up in the city and is committed to ensuring future generations have opportunities to find out about, and enjoy, the amazing art and heritage on their doorsteps.
Liza has a degree in Fine Art and now manages the Learning and Engagement Team, including the delivery of SLA’s.
Rebecca Sharp – Customer Support Assistant Learning
Becky is an experienced administrator with a background in history and education, and passionately believes that everyone has the right to access the stories of their past.
She has a BA in Politics from the University of Greenwich and a Masters from University of Southampton in Medieval and Renaissance Culture. Becky also holds a Level 3 Award in Education from Eastleigh College.
Victoria Phillips – Learning and Engagement Officer
Vikki has twenty years’ experience bringing history to life for schools and family audiences in local and national museums across Hampshire. She has a BA in the History of Art and an MA in Museums Studies, focusing on Access and Learning.
Vikki has worked at Southampton City Museums and Art Gallery for two years and believes that every child should be able to see themselves represented in our heritage.
Kate Mitchell – Learning & Engagement Officer
Kate has been leading creative workshops for all ages since 2000. A qualified primary school teacher, Kate has taught FS1 – Year 8 as a classroom teacher as well as being subject lead for art.
She is a firm believer in the role art can play in a child’s learning and thinking.
Kate revels daily in sharing the rich resources the Gallery and Museums provide with learners of all ages.
Rebecca Honeycombe-Foster – Learning & Engagement Officer
Bea has been involved in museum learning for over ten years working at venues including the Science Museum, Museum of the Home and the National Maritime Museum.
She helps deliver the learning programme by leading school sessions, tours, holiday workshops and other activities and is passionate about sharing the amazing history of her hometown.
Bea has an English Literature degree and a PGCE.
Alexandra Sutherland – Learning and Engagement Assistant
Alex graduated from Winchester School of Art in 2019.
She is a practising artist specialising in ceramics and is a founding member of ZEST collective based in Southampton.
Alex has teaching experience in an SEN background and delivers skill-sharing workshops in and around Southampton
