Clean air
Clean air is essential for good quality of life, yet people living in our urban centres may be exposed to potentially harmful levels of pollutants. As part of Our Green City we will take actions to reduce emissions and improve the quality of life in Southampton.
These actions show our commitment to meeting and maintaining compliance with national air quality objectives. Actions have focused on road transport, the largest contributor to poor air quality.
We have adopted a new Air Quality Action Plan, setting out what further measures we'll implement and explore over the next five years.
On the Southampton Air website you can look at the local live air quality in Southampton as well as the diffusion tube data for the past four years and receive email alerts relating to air pollution.
If you are looking to plan a cleaner air route within the city which would help to reduce your exposure to air pollution, select Clean Air routing tool.
