Southampton City Council launches consultation on proposed amendments to season ticket prices
Southampton City Council has announced the start of a public consultation on proposed changes to season ticket prices for city centre car parks which aim to balance value for local people with encouraging people to use public transport options more often
The current season ticket prices for city centre residents are proposed to remain at the same level, having remained steady since 2021 and, at £1,150, are lower than the pre-pandemic rate of £1,200. We have looked at season ticket pricing in high demand facilities within other local authority areas, such as Portsmouth and Bournemouth, which showed that this pricing is competitive with them.
Additionally, the council is considering the removal of the discount available for electric vehicles. This is to ensure that season ticket prices effectively manage the use of the city centre parking facilities, as the adoption of electric vehicles becomes more widespread.
Councillor Eamonn Keogh, Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport said:
"We understand the importance of balancing affordability for our residents with effective management of our city centre parking facilities. The proposed amendments to season ticket prices reflect our dedication to encouraging alternative modes of transport and ensuring fair access to parking. We encourage all local people and other stakeholders to share their views through the consultation process".
