Southampton celebrates success in Adult Learning Awards ceremony
Southampton City Art Gallery played host to an awards event celebrating the success of adult learning in the city. The ceremony recognised the inspiring achievements of learners, volunteers and tutors involved in adult education, highlighting the vital role it plays in the lives of Southampton’s people and communities
The nominees comprised of adult learners who have had to overcome significant challenges such as disabilities, learning difficulties or unemployment, as well as tutors and volunteers who have enabled them to reach their potential.
The winners were nominated by adult learning providers including Southampton City College and TWICs (Training for Work in the Community) who highlighted outstanding achievements. Certificates were presented to all the nominees by the Lord Mayor of Southampton, in front of a supportive audience of family and friends.
The city's Cabinet Member for Economic Development, Cllr Sarah Bogle, praised the service for supporting over 1200 learners and offering almost 2500 learning activities in diverse subjects, leading to significant personal development and employment opportunities.
