Solent Careers Hub launched
Business leaders and educators from across the Solent region gathered at Southampton College yesterday for the Southampton launch of the Solent Careers Hub
A joint project between Isle of Wight Council, Portsmouth City Council and Southampton City Council and supported by funding from The Careers Enterprise Company, the Solent Careers Hub will work to forge links between employers and the 42 secondary schools and five colleges within the local authority areas, enhancing careers education across the Solent with exceptional opportunities to benefit from unique work experiences.
Working at a local level, the Solent Careers Hub will support schools with careers education and employer engagement to fill gaps in local provision and capitalise on opportunities to innovate with experiences that meet the needs of schools and local employers.
Speaking at the launch, Emma Carney, Area Manager South for The Careers and Enterprise Company, said:
“We are pleased to be working with the Solent Careers Hub to ensure that every young person is supported in their next steps, whether that is further education, training or employment.”
Ben Mason, Founder and CEO of globalbridge, said:
“Research through the Mckinsey Global Institute indicates that the skills driving productivity and growth are evolving beyond traditional academic credentials. globalbridge is excited to be working with Southampton City Council and schools across the region providing the ability for students to evidence these wider skills and achievements through their own digital record of achievement.”
Kev Sadler, Solent Careers Hub Lead, said:
“The Hub is a great opportunity, working with dedicated and talented colleagues, to bring educators and employers together to give young people extraordinary opportunities. We are committed to working with our partners to develop and deliver world-leading careers education.”
