Projects awarded grants from the first round of the Community Fund are announced
Southampton City Council has awarded £148,621 to 19 Southampton based projects and initiatives as part of the first round of the Community Fund
Launched in October 2021, the Community Fund offers three new grant funding opportunities that will support community groups and organisations in the delivery of youth and diversionary activities, and environmental changes related to the incidence of anti-social behaviour, promoting safety and security in neighbourhoods and communities.
Organisations and community groups were able to apply for grants that fit the criteria of one of the three components, with grants awarded as follows:
- Youth Fund – £116,469 awarded to 12 projects
- Protecting Communities Fund - £27,101 awarded to four organisations
- Strengthening Communities - £5,050.46 awarded to three organisations
Councillor Spiros Vassiliou, Cabinet Member for Communities, Culture & Heritage said:
“I am really pleased that we have been able to provide this funding to support 19 local projects. Through this new Community Fund, we hope to help kickstart activities and community involvement to strengthen the network of community groups and youth service providers in the city. We want to support and enable our communities to deliver and expand upon the positive activities which in turn, may help to combat and prevent anti-social behaviour in the city.”
The next round of applications will open later this year.
