Chinese New Year celebrations return to Southampton’s city centre to bring in Chinese New Year, Year of the Tiger 2022

The Chinese Association of Southampton and the University of Southampton Confucius Institute Chinese New Year Celebration
The community-sponsored free event from 11am on Sunday 30 January at WestQuay Shopping Centre, aims to share the colourful Chinese culture. Including traditional lion dance, dragon dance, martial arts and Tai Chi displays, Chinese music, dances, and poems. A range of cultural workshops are also available, including lantern making, paper cutting, calligraphy and panda moulding.

UK Shaolin Centre Chinese New Year 2022 show
On Sunday 6 February, the UK Shaolin Centre Chinese New Year 2022 show in the MAST studio theatre brings together the best of traditional Chinese New Year arts, featuring traditional lion dance, Chinese martial arts, Chinese dance, and street dance performances, as well as authentic Chinese music and traditional songs. Free activities in Guildhall Square 10.30am -3pm and ticketed activities at the MAST 12noon – 4pm.
UK Shaolin and the WeCommunity Chinese Lantern Festival
The free Chinese Lantern Festival on Saturday 12 February 2021 15:30pm-17:30pm at Guildhall Square marks the official closing of the 2022 Chinese New Year Celebrations in Southampton. Like many Chinese New Year customs, the Lantern Festival promotes togetherness, where family and friends reunite amidst the glow of lanterns. There will also be family friendly activities and workshops, as well as, spectacular demonstrations including the traditional lion and dragon dance, food and drink stalls, arts, and crafts.
