The Big Green Event
Be part of the action at the Big Green Event on 30 July!
Come along to the green event of the summer, hosting sustainable businesses where you can shop, ask the experts, watch demonstrations and even grab a pre-loved bargain! Outside you can go along to the co-event, Big Green Wheel and check out electric and hybrid cars, cargo bikes and even get yourself a bike check up from the Bike Doctor!
A family friendly event, there will be something for all ages to enjoy. With over 50 stalls, including partners from My Journey, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust, Forestry Commission, Southampton National Park City, the Environment Centre, Friends of the Earth and Greenpeace. Even the youngest visitors can enjoy free marine and wildlife themed face painting - sponsored by Associated British Ports and explore a big bus courtesy of the Go Southcoast Bluestar Air Filter Bus team. There’ll be a real working beehive, sessions on composting and a lesson on how to make an eco-Christmas cracker.
Councillor Lisa Mitchell, Cabinet member for Environment says:
“Hosting the first Big Green Event is so exciting for Southampton and really helps us underpin the green ambitions for our city. This event promises to be full of ideas and support to help us make changes to live, work, play and travel more sustainably. There is something for everyone to enjoy and it is free to attend.”
Lynda Daniels, Director at The Southern Sustainability Partnership, commented:
“We’re so excited to be a part of Southampton City Council’s first Big Green Event. We can’t wait to welcome people from across the region and we promise them a great day out."
