Born and lived in Southampton all life attending local schools of St Monica Infant & Junior, Weston Park Girls and Southampton College for Girls. Trained as a teacher in Birmingham, never taught but started as a school governor at St Monica Junior School and Woodlands Community College in 1988 and is still a school governor at Woodlands. Worked in the related education field at Southampton Careers Office in Arundel Towers.
First elected to the Council in 1992 for the St Luke’s Ward, then represented Sholing from 1996 to 2015, Woolston from 2016.
Served on a wide range of Committees and chaired many before the Leader and Cabinet system and has been a Cabinet Member for Communities and Regeneration.
Started volunteering at the General Hospital in 2015 and from 2016-2019 was an Appointed Governor at University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust.
Life member of the Woodland Trust and National Trust has environmental interests and supports the Sholing Valley Study Centre as a member.
Cllr Blatchford has also been the City Mayor in 2014-2015 and 2020-2021.
