Objection to Townhill Park Regeneration Scheme

We the undersigned petition the council to Objection to the proposed extensionto Litchfireld Road. We do not want more traffic. We want the footpath to be retained as a footpath.

Paper petition recieved from Mr Steven Mayes with 200 petitioners

The attached a petition signed by residents of Midanbury who strongly object to the proposed new link road between Ozier Road and Cornwall Road, which is included with the Townhill Park Regeneration Plan.

In general, we are in favour of the idea of regenerating the Townhill Park Estate, However, the proposed new road is not needed to make the scheme viable, either socially, financially or for any improvement in traffic flow. The new road is there only as a planning nicety, especially given the fact that within 200 metres of the proposed new road is Wakefield Road, which currently does and can continue to, carry traffic between Townhill Park and Midanbury perfectly adequately.

In addition to being a huge waste of public money, the new road will not improve anything for Townhill Park residents but only worsen the situation of anyone living anywhere near to the new road. There is no public support for this new road and you will cause great upset to hundreds of residents for no real regeneration gain.

These affected residents would have to suffer:
•INCREASED VOLUME OF TRAFFIC – BECOME A RAT RUN
•NCREASED DANGER TO PEDESTRIANS, CHILDREN, PETS ETC
•INCREASED DANGER AT SEVERAL ROAD JUNCTIONS – ESPECIALLY AT THE TOP OF LITCHFIELD
•INCREASED DANGER WHEN STEEP HILL BECOMES ICY
•MORE TRAFFIC NOISE
•MORE EXHAUST FUMES
•REDUCED PROPERTY PRICES
•LITCHFIELD ROAD NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO SUPPORT HEAVY TRAFFIC
•3 PEOPLE ARE TO FORCIBLY LOSE THEIR HOMES AGAINST THEIR WISHES TO MAKE WAY FOR THE NEW ROAD

There is no acceptable business, social, or environmental case for the proposed new link road, Please follow the wishes of the Council Tax paying voters, whom you are being paid to serve, and permanently remove it from the Townhill Park Regeneration Scheme.
