Election of Chair and Vice-Chair

To elect the Chair and Vice Chair for the Municipal Year 2023-2024.

Minutes:

RESOLVED that:

 

(i)  Ruth Gill be elected as Chair for the Educational Year of 2024/2025; and

(ii)  Suzzane Underwood be elected as Vice-Chair for the Educational Year of 2024/2025.

To approve as a correct record the minutes of the meeting held on 8 July 2024 and note the record of the September date, attached.

Local and National Opportunities for training

Members to discuss the requirements and opportunities for training.

 

Minutes:

It was noted that the NASCRE website had a number of courses  that members Could sign up for online.  Group D members were advised that there is a training session in January.

 

In addition it was noted that March would see a session relating to the agreed syllabus. 

 

Members were advised to contact Silas Bingley to confirm the new access information.

Monitoring Visits a- Updates and Plans

Members to discuss

Minutes:

Members noted that the importance of onsite its onsite monitoring of schools religious education at schools.  It was noted that a new programme of visits needed to be set up for the forthcoming year.  It was agreed that initially small group of members would be trained and undertake monitoring visits.

 

It was noted that the intention of a small working party would be to ensure that members were adequately skilled to undertake the assessments and that an initial assessment would be undertaken in January at a secondary school.  It was noted that the aim was to recommence the programme of school visits.  Members were reminded that a skills audit had been circulated in order to establish the individual strengths of members.  Amelia Day, Lucy Heptinstall, Reverend Gary Roberts ad Mary Wallbank all expressed and interest in taking part of the working group. 

 

Member discussed the potential to review schools online presence.  The Following members expressed an interest in undertaking these reviews when an appropriate check list had been devised:  Suzie Underwood, Amelia Day Mary Wallbank and Reverend Roberts. 

 

5.

MembersFeedback on Events

Members are reminded of “The One City No Barriers event” coming up for Secondary Schools on Thursday 28th November and are asked to confirm their attendance with Suzanne Dawson.

 

To receive feedback and updates from members of the SACRE on any events or training attended.

 

Minutes:

Noted the forthcoming “The One City No Barriers event” coming up for Secondary Schools on Thursday 28th November 2024.  Members from none Christian faiths we asked especially to register if possible.

 

Members also discussed forth coming events  hosted by the Parkes Institute  at the University of Southampton and a forthcoming philosothan at Cantell School.

6.

Future Meetings and attendance

Members are requested to note the following dates scheduled for Sacre meetings for the remaining school year:

·  17 February 2025; and

·  28 April 2025 or 12 May 2025

In addition members are asked to confirm their wish to continue as members and to confirm any nominated substitutes.

Minutes:

Members confirmed the future dates of the of SACRE as:

 

·  10 February 2025 ;and

·  28 April 2024.

 

Members discussed the potential to utilise venues around the City other than the Civic Centre to hold future. The Chair requested that members of SACRE to explore whether it would be possible to hold future meetings at their church or organisation.
