We all struggle with costs at present due to a degrading economy and rising bills. With the increase in remote work, more and more people need access to reliable internet and decent prices. Unfortunately, the services available to residents in the city centre of Southampton are either that of basic copper cabling which is overpriced and underperforming or FTTP / FTTC services from Virgin Media / OpenReach which again are overpriced for what they provide.
Residents deserve cheaper and better options provided by companies like Toob who are outperforming big names like OpenReach and Virgin Media who have held a monopoly over the broadband business for too long. Alt nets such as Toob are providing Gigabit internet at extremely competitive prices and residents deserve this service, no matter whether they are living in a house, block of flats or an old building converted into flats.
We need the council to work with Toob to push for full fibre connectivity to the whole of Southampton. Not only is full fibre technology future proofing the economy, it’s sustainable and cheaper to maintain than copper, meaning it is environmentally friendly as well.
