Decision details

Proposed Reversal Of One-Way System, Lyon Street (TRO)

Decision Maker: Cabinet

Decision status: Deleted

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

To consider a report of the Head of Highways and Parking Services detailing unresolved objections to a proposal to reverse the flow of the one-way system in Lyon Street as part of the formal legal process of consultation with regard to Traffic Regulation Orders.

Decision:

(i)  That Cabinet confirmed the proposals set out in the report;

(ii)  That Cabinet requested that a review of proposed changes in 12 months time

Reasons for the decision:

(i)  that a number of concerns had been expressed over the illegal use by motorists of Lyon Street. As a result the police had requested that the current one way system be reversed.

(ii)  the objection detailed in the report along with representation by the objector was given due consideration but, Cabinet felt that on balance the request to amend the  traffic system layout by both police and residents outweighed the objection.

Alternative options considered:

Do nothing.  This would mean that vehicles would continue to illegally use the road as a short-cut.  The Police enforce the Prohibition of Motor Vehicles restriction when their resources allow, but this appears to be of little deterrence
