Volunteering at the library
Thank you for your interest in volunteering for Southampton City Libraries.
We both appreciate and value the time, and help, our volunteers give us. Our volunteers benefit our customers, staff and the wider community.
There are opportunities for everyone, whatever your experience or time available.
Current volunteering opportunities
- Develop your IT skills and become a Digital Champion
- Support activities and events in libraries
- Discover and help preserve Southampton's local history collections
Applicants must be aged 16 or over, with the exception of Summer Reading Challenge volunteers who must be aged 14 to 25. Successful applicants may be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service check.

Other ways to get involved
You can get involved with one of the many friends' groups at our libraries.
The groups support and promote their local library through various activities, such as arranging social events, fund raising, and encouraging the use of library facilities.
If you are interested in setting up a "Friends of" group please speak to a member of staff in that library. If you would like to join an existing group please contact them directly:
