Townhill Park all set for spring
Funded by the Decent Neighbourhoods (DN) programme, the landscaping project has already paid for smart new paving around block entrances, resurfaced footpaths and the creation of extra parking spaces. Planting is about to start soon, so that by summer, the beds in this neighbourhood will be bursting with colourful plants, bushes and flowers.
This latest project in Townhill Park is just one of the ways Decent Neighbourhoods funding is making improvements that were suggested by local residents. The ideas of improved pavements and pathways, resurfaced car parks and landscaping works to make the areas around blocks safer, greener and more attractive were all suggested by local people, and the results are having a big impact on life in this area.
Townhill Park isn’t the only area to benefit from Decent Neighbourhoods funding. Various council communities across Southampton have enjoyed improvements in recent years to make these communities even better places to live. Other DN funded projects include new paving and fencing at Chiltern Green in Millbrook, resurfaced car parks at International Way, Weston and new parking spaces created at Brookwood Road, Redbridge. The programme has also funded the creation of several community gardens and gardening clubs in areas including Weston, Holyrood, Millbrook and Northam.
Future projects include landscaping around blocks of flats at Dempsey Close and Kathleen Road in Sholing where we hope to appoint a contractor to start work soon. We are also looking to develop a new car park at Honister Close in Millbrook.
