Tenants get ready to celebrate Queen’s Jubilee!

The whole country is eagerly anticipating the extended bank holiday weekend, and residents in our supported housing schemes will be throwing their own Platinum Jubilee celebrations to mark the special event.

We’ve planned a range of events, from cream teas to quizzes and singalongs, to ensure our older residents – many of whom can remember the Queen’s coronation – can come together to commemorate Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee. Several events are being organised by residents themselves, and we’re working with residents’ associations and family members to ensure the fun activities go with a swing.

There will be Jubilee afternoon tea parties, complete with scones and cakes, at many supported housing schemes including Orpen Road Social Club, and Milner Court where residents will also be able to enjoy some nostalgic entertainment including a singer and dancing. Residents at Ventnor Court and Leaside Way are organising an outdoor event in the communal garden to ensure everyone can enjoy the sunshine.

At Graylings, residents are invited to come together to enjoy a buffet, while over at Rozel Court the coals are being lit for a community barbecue.

As well as enjoying a Jubilee picnic, residents at Bishops Crescent will be able to take part in a fun quiz which is being organised by a family member of one of the residents there.

Some supported schemes have already held celebration events this past week, including a traditional cream tea at Manston Court and a Jubilee garden party at Potters Court (one of our housing with care schemes).

These special events are just part of a year-round programme of activities and events that supported housing tenants can join in. From bingo and gardening to keep fit, computers and coffee mornings, there is something going on to suit everyone, so that no one has to feel isolated or alone.

Keeping fit – both mentally and physically – is increasingly important as we get older and so our team of Activity Coordinators work hard to offer a varied range of opportunities for residents to get together and enjoy fun and companionship. Many of our supported housing schemes have active residents’ associations that organise regular activities in communal lounges and even trips out. To find out what’s going on in your scheme just talk to your Housing Support Worker or send us an email.

Did you know that some of our supported housing is available for anyone aged 50 or over? Despite common misconceptions supported housing isn’t just for elderly, frail or vulnerable people. In fact, most of our supported housing residents are fit and active and enjoy living independent lifestyles without any involvement from us. Each flat is self-contained offering you your own home with your own front door, but with the knowledge that when the time comes, we’re on hand to offer support if needed in the future.

Our supported housing schemes offer residents the chance to live in a safe, vibrant and mixed community, and we currently have vacancies at some of our supported housing flats right now. Find out if you’re eligible to apply and check our current vacancies online using Homebid.
