New year…new you

Who doesn’t want to start 2022 feeling more positive, earning more money, or living in an even nicer community?

We’ve rounded up some great tips and advice to help you make some positive changes to your life this new year – from relaunching your career to developing green fingers and helping to keep your local area looking clean.

Achieve your work goals

Whether you’re unemployed or simply stuck in a rut at work and looking for a new challenge to kickstart the year, we can help you find a job. Our free weekly Work Clubs provide expert advice to help you find employment or even start your own business. And when you’re ready to start making applications you’ll find over 90 pages of local job vacancies and apprenticeships on our online Jobs Bulletin which is updated every two weeks. Specialist employment advice just for young people aged between 16-25 is available at the Southampton Young Adults Employment Hub held daily at the Central Library.

Start a new career in care

We are actively looking for people to work in adult social care, with various care assistant roles available across the city. Not only does this career offer job security and flexible working patterns to fit around your family life, but you’ll receive an enormous sense of personal achievement from knowing you are helping other local people. Find out more about working in care.

Volunteer to become a cleaning monitor

We’re looking for tenants and leaseholders to help us check that communal areas in your block are looking clean and tidy. Simply sign up to become a volunteer cleaning monitor and spend 10 minutes once a month completing a form to tell us how well your block is being cleaned. Return the form to us using a pre-paid return envelope and we will ensure our Senior Neighbourhood Wardens and cleaners rectify any issues or problems that you highlight. Get in touch with our Tenant Engagement Team to find out more or call 023 8083 3185.

Make your neighbourhood blooming lovely

If you’re keen to develop a new hobby in 2022 that keeps you fit and active, improves your local neighbourhood and will enable you to meet new people, why not get involved with your local gardening club? There are many active community gardening clubs and groups across the city, many of which are supported by Decent Neighbourhoods funding. Lots of tenants and leaseholders have transformed unloved areas into colourful community garden spots for their neighbours to enjoy. Find out where your local club is or get in touch if you’re interested in setting up a new club in your area.
