Get your home ready for spring
Protect your pipes
Keep pipes flowing freely. Never put food waste or foreign objects down drains and make sure you pour oil or cooking fat into another container before washing up your pans, as oil and fat will solidify and block your pipe. It is a good idea to use a sink strainer on plug holes to stop larger objects going down the pipe and getting blocked.
Freshen up your fridge
Make your fridge smell like new by wiping the shelves and inside down with soapy water then cut a lemon in half and pop it inside the fridge to absorb any nasty odours.
Washing kids toys
Give kids toys a good clean. Put hard toys in the dishwasher or wash in very hot soapy water and machine wash soft toys.
Cupboards, drawers, cutlery and crockery
Clean kitchen cupboards and drawers with antibacterial cleaner and wash all your cutlery and crockery on the highest setting of the dishwasher or in very hot soapy water.
Dusting and vacuuming
Empty the bag on your hoover regularly to keep it working effectively.
Use a damp cloth when dusting to trap the dust and dirt much better. Then wash the cloth afterwards.
Gleaming windows
Let the spring sunshine in through squeaky clean windows. Clean with water and vinegar and then use scrunched up newspaper to get rid of any streaks.
Contact us about repairs
Report any repairs that need fixing, but remember if we have to fix a problem that was caused by your negligence or carelessness, you will have to pay for the repair. This could include things like unblocking pipes because you’ve flushed wet wipes or poured cooking oil down the sink, or repairing kitchen cupboard doors that have not been treated with care.
Neighbourhood cleaning
Spring cleaning doesn’t have to stop indoors. You can also help keep your neighbourhood clean and tidy by making sure all litter and rubbish goes in the bin and by keeping communal areas free of clutter.
Not only will it make your block look better, but it’s essential to keep landings, balconies, and walkways free of obstructions in case of an emergency. These areas are your escape route in the event of a fire, so it is important they are kept clear at all times. Please never store personal items like bikes or buggies in communal areas and if you have large items of furniture to get rid of simply book a bulky waste collection.
If you are concerned about any items or clutter in communal areas in your block that could cause a fire safety hazard, please complete the online form to contact your Local Housing Office.
