Generosity during the COVID-19 pandemic

The pandemic has brought out the best in people, and local residents are doing what they can to help others at this time. Community spirit is being shown in lots of different ways across the city with tenants volunteering to share their time and even their outdoor space with those in need.

Mick, a tenant in Harefield who lives in a ground floor flat, has invited neighbours in his block to use the outdoor space behind his flat during the lockdown. His generosity means the families who live on upper floors with no outdoor space of their own, can get out and enjoy fresh air safely.

Mick said: “It’s tough being shut indoors all day, especially for young children living in flats, so I am more than happy to invite others to benefit from my outdoor space. One of the mums even bought a paddling pool so her young son can splash around and have fun when it’s warm enough. I’m lucky to have access to a garden and am more than happy to share it at this time of need.”

We know that lots of other neighbours are busy looking out for one another in different ways. Residents are offering to collect shopping and prescriptions for those unable to leave home and whole communities are rallying round to protect the most vulnerable. If you (or someone you know) is in critical need of support please call us on 023 8083 4800 (Monday to Friday, 8.30am-5pm) or visit our website.

Our very own frontline heroes are also working hard to ensure essential council services carry on despite the pandemic. Our staff are out and about delivering important services such as making repairs, carrying out maintenance, mowing grass and collecting dustbins. If you see a member of our council team on your estate or in your block, please remember to respect social distancing rules and keep at least two metres away at all times. We want to continue to deliver an excellent service, but we need to do it safely while minimising risks to both staff and local residents.
