Noticed a coloured disc on your front door?
Noticed a coloured disc on your front door?
The small coloured disc means your door has been checked by one of our safety inspectors.
And it’s more than just a simple disc – it’s a readable disc that works like a QR code to capture important information about the condition of your door.
After they have checked each door, the inspectors use 'chip and pin' technology to upload their findings to the disc and we then download this information to help us plan which doors need repairing or replacing.
Checking and replacing fire doors is just part of our ongoing fire safety programme. In recent years we have carried out a range of improvement and fire safety works such as installing sprinklers in flats, making improvements to communal areas, and conducting fire inspections to blocks every six months. It’s all part of the way we are implementing new fire safety guidelines that the government introduced in response to the Grenfell tragedy.
Following an independent review of building regulations and fire safety, the government recommended the introduction of the Golden Thread – a way to track information to ensure buildings are designed, built, and managed safely. The readable disc on your front door forms part of the requirements of the Golden Thread of Information which holds details about the fire and structural aspects of the building.
While we work hard to ensure the building is safe it is essential that you and your neighbours play your part to reduce fire risks. Please follow these tips below to enjoy a safe Christmas:
- Dispose of rubbish correctly, never dump rubbish bags or leave clutter and personal items in communal areas, walkways and stairwells.
- Don’t overload your electrical sockets with extension leads, and if you do have to use an extension lead ensure that it is surge protected.
- Always remember to turn off Christmas lights and blow out candles at night and whenever you go out.
- Never leave children or pets in a room with a lit candle and keep naked flames away from Christmas decorations and soft furnishings which could easily catch alight.
- If you live in a flat, please keep your Christmas decorations inside your home, don’t put any decorations up in communal areas or attach items to your front door.
