Conference is a celebration of our tenant volunteers
Our summer conference held in July at The Novotel was a chance to celebrate the many different ways that tenants and leaseholders are actively improving neighbourhoods and influencing how the Housing Service is run.
During the event there were inspirational presentations on a range of subjects including:
- Stamping out the stigma of council housing – delivered by some of our Tenant Inspectors (see the full article in this month’s edition for an in-depth look at this issue)
- The success of tenant-led gardening groups in transforming unloved areas and brightening up local neighbourhoods, with reports from green-fingered residents at Golden Grove, Holyrood and Drummond Court
- How the Tenant Repairs Panel are helping to improve the Repairs Service for everyone by recommending changes that tenants want
- The Local Plan and how residents can get involved in helping to shape the future of our city (in fact attendees at the conference voted on the most relevant local issues and the best ways to engage with local people)
- The launch of our new Tenant Training programme including details of upcoming training sessions that are available free of charge
- How our Junior Neighbourhood Wardens are breaking down barriers between young and old through an intergeneration project that involves activities including cooking and keep fit
- The work of the Tenant Scrutiny Panel and how this group of tenants are scrutinising areas of the council and recommending improvements (see our article in next month’s issue)
- How the Tenant Resource Group are keeping an eye on how your rent money is spent and checking the housing budget, and getting tenants involved in a range of issues including procurement and tenancy fraud
- How our team of Cleaning and Green Space Monitors volunteer their time to check estates, green areas and blocks are kept looking their best
