Who’s involved?
Southampton City Council are working in partnership with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to support the city’s young people into training, apprenticeships and employment opportunities with the new Young Adults Employment Hub.
We are also able to signpost to advice and support around housing, benefits, health and wellbeing to provide a holistic and person-centred service for young people.
Southampton City Council Employment Support Team
We have been supporting Southampton residents for 30 years and in that time we have supported over 3,000 people into paid employment. We use the model of supported employment to help people of all backgrounds to overcome their barriers to work in order to find meaningful and sustainable employment.
We have two Employment Officers working on the hub who will be able to work with you on a 1:1 basis and can support with anything employment related such as CV writing, job applications and interview preparation.
Department for Work and Pensions (Southampton Jobcentre Plus)
Jobcentre Plus is a government-funded employment agency and social security office, whose aim it is to help people of working age find employment in the UK. Jobcentre Plus provides resources to enable job-searchers to find work, offers information about local training opportunities and administer claims for benefits such as Income Support, Incapacity Benefit, and Universal Credit.
There are two Work Coaches within the Young Adults Employment Hub who will be able to help advise you around benefit claims, access funding to help with employment-related costs and support you to access local opportunities.
