Future of Work
Businesses know that the world of work is changing, and that they need to be ready to respond.
The pace of digitisation and automation is transforming the way in which:
- employers recruit, develop and retain staff
- businesses function, in increasingly modernised and flexible ‘work’ settings
- technology is creating a knowledge-based economy.
As a council, it is our challenge and responsibility to build the right environment and infrastructure to empower businesses in our city to thrive in this evolving world; to take advantage of the opportunities and to be alert to the threats.
Across the Southampton area, there is a growing movement of innovators, entrepreneurs and purpose-led employers, looking at different ways of working. Our world-class universities, further education and specialist training providers are responding to an ever-changing and complex economic landscape – both here and abroad.
With our Local Plan, the implementation of the Solent Freeport and ambition to become a Green City, the resulting economic opportunities are significant.
