Employment and Skills Plan

Since 2009 Southampton City Council has engaged with companies who are undertaking major developments to ensure they deliver a range of job, training and community benefits from both site contractors and employers occupying the finished buildings

This joint work with developers and their supply chain results in many activities that bring measurable benefit to local communities; from local job generation and an increase in local apprenticeship take-up to brokering work experience and other careers education support for pupils and students across our education providers. We capture this impact through a social value calculation to ensure we can track the progress of this work, celebrate success, and improve our support to the businesses that we engage with.

Southampton City Council works in partnership with organisations such as Department for Work and Pensions (Jobcentre Plus), Quickstart Training (Brockenhurst College), Itchen College and City College Southampton amongst others to help draft and deliver on Employment and Skills Plans in collaboration with business engaged in major developments across the city – both at construction phase and once occupied.
