Reduction in Council Tax for disabled people

The disabled band reduction scheme aims to reduce Council Tax for disabled people who have to live in a larger property to meet the needs of their disability.

To qualify your home must have one of the following features:

• A room (not kitchen, bathroom or toilet) which is mainly used, or is required for meeting the needs of the disabled person
• A second bathroom or kitchen
• Extra space inside the property to allow for the use of a wheelchair indoors

Each of these features must be of essential or major importance to the well-being of the disabled person. Having a disability does not automatically entitle you to a reduction.
