Southampton City Council's commitments to me
The commitments have been developed with Southampton Voices Unite and are a set of promises to Southampton's Looked After Children, young people and care experienced adults. It reflects what is important to those young people to ensure that they can be supported to be the best they can.
When a child goes into the care of Southampton City Council, we become their corporate parent. This means that we are responsible for making sure you have the best possible care and that you are kept safe, in the same way that any good parent would. The corporate parenting board is a group that meets regularly to talk about issues for children and young people in care and tries to work out a way to support when issues arise.
Corporate parenting is the term used in law to describe the council's collective responsibility to care for, love and champion our care experienced children and young people and ensure they have every opportunity to reach their full potential as they grow up in our care.
