Appendix 2 – 2024 Review of polling district and polling places

Introduction

The following representations from local ward members have been received as part of the 2024 review. These together with representations from the Returning Officer, and any views forthcoming from polling station staff prior to the review, have been collated for the purpose of informing this review.

District LE in Redbridge ward

A representation from Councillor Goodfellow indicates that the current boundary between the LC and LE polling districts divides the Cowley area of the ward.

Assessment of options

Councillor Goodfellow suggests that Cowley Close, Green Lane and Thirlmere Road are included in the LC polling district

Recommendation

To restore community connections, the boundary between the LC and LE polling districts is realigned to include the 208 properties and 305 registered electors in Cowley Close, Green Lane and Thirlmere Road in the LC polling district of the Redbridge ward.

District LF in Redbridge ward

A representation from Councillor Whitbread indicates that the polling place for this area of the ward at The Ship Inn, 41 Old Redbridge Road, is not convenient or practicable for electors in Bampton Close, Brookwood Road, Green Park Road and Parkside Road.

A section of the A33 (Redbridge Road) separates this area from the rest of the polling district, giving rise to poor access to the polling place.

Assessment of options

Councillor Whitbread suggests that this area of the polling district is transferred to the LD polling district. The polling place at the All Saints Church Hall in Kendal Avenue would be more convenient and easier for voters to access.

Recommendation

To provide voters with reasonable and practicable voting facilities, the boundary between the LD and LF polling districts is realigned to include the 305 properties and 476 registered electors in Bampton Close, Brookwood Road, Green Park Road and Parkside Road in the LD polling district of the Redbridge ward.
