Local Government Association Corporate Peer Challenge (CPC)

Southampton City Council welcomed the Local Government Association (LGA) to carry out an independent Corporate Peer Challenge (CPC) in January 2025.

The CPC process is designed to help councils identify strengths, areas for improvement, and to provide constructive feedback to guide future development. The CPC was carried out by experienced senior officers and councillors from other councils, as well as colleagues from the LGA. CPCs normally take place every five years.

The team of peers were on-site for four days and spoke to around 100 people, including external partners, councillors, and staff, as well as reviewing documentation.

We have received an in-depth report from the LGA with the findings of the CPC, which sets out 11 recommendations. We are currently developing an action report in response to each of the recommendations, which will be published in May.
