The bulky waste collection service can help you dispose of large household items that can't be disposed of through domestic waste collections. What is Bulky Waste?
This service is only available to residential households of Southampton and is not for businesses to use. Bulky items, such as trampolines must be dismantled before collection.
Charges, terms and conditions
The bulky collection service charge depends upon the size of the items to be collected. Each bulky collection can have up to 10 items collected. The charge displayed below is per item and not per collection.
Please note that there is a minimum charge for the service which is £23.00, we therefore recommend that you wait to make a booking until you have more than one standard size item to be collected.

Discounts
People claiming any of the benefits listed below will receive a 25% discount on the normal charges. You will need to provide a benefits reference number or national insurance number as evidence that you are claiming benefits.

Single person reduction for council tax is not a means-tested benefit and therefore recipients do not qualify for a discount.
Sofas, armchairs and other upholstered items (POP’s)
The Environment Agency and DEFRA have identified these items as containing Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) which need to be handled and disposed of in a special way to ensure that the POPs chemicals are not released into the environment.
The new compliance procedures mean we must collect items containing POPs separately from other bulky waste items.
This means if you book a collection with us that contains one or more ‘POPs item’ (like a sofa) and a ‘non-POPs item’ (like a fridge), we will collect them at different times but on the same day.
There is no need to call us if we only take some of the items you have requested to have collected as we will return later that day for the remaining items.
We can only collect these items if any damage is sealed with tape or plastic and covered. Otherwise the item(s) will not be collected and you will not be eligible for a refund.
Please follow the steps below to ensure your item is ready for bulky waste collection:
- Please keep items from the list above separate from other bulk waste items when putting them out for collection
- Please put items out for collection as close to your scheduled collection date as possible and keep them dry
- Please ensure items are kept whole, where feasible
- Please declare any damaged item when booking
- Contain any damaged parts such as rips or tears where possible to minimise the risk of any textiles or foam escaping into the environment. This can be done through sealing an area with tape or bagging an item

Missed collections
Bulky waste collections take place between 7am and 3pm. Please note, if the item(s) wasn't out the crew will not return to collect them.
If your bulky waste collection has been missed you should contact Customer Services on 023 8083 3005 within two working days of the scheduled collection date. If you are calling on the day of your collection then please wait until after 3pm.
