Southampton Community Learning Disability Team

This page provides information on services for adults with learning disabilities living in Southampton.

Who are the Southampton Community Learning Disability teams?

We are two teams based in two locations.

Health Team

The Health Team consists of:

  • Learning disability nurses
  • Physiotherapy
  • Occupational therapy
  • Art therapy
  • Psychology and psychiatry
  • Speech and language therapy

Adult Services Team

The Adult Services team consists of social workers and care managers. We also have an intensive support team who help people with complex health and behavioural needs.

We work with adults who have a learning disability and need adapted healthcare which cannot be met by other services. We also work together with doctors surgeries and other health services to help improve people's health.

How we can help

We would first assess to see if we are the right service to work with you.

The Health team assess and complete specialist interventions on the following health needs:

  • Epilepsy
  • Challenging behaviour
  • Mental health
  • Complex physical health
  • Forensic
  • Autism

The Adult Services Learning Disability Team assess what support you need at home and in the community. They will help you find the right place to live, get respite, and keep safe.

Anyone can refer someone with a learning disability to either service. If you agree, we can work with other people to help you, such as your doctor, advocate, social worker, and carers.
